WATCH: KU's Mayo talks return to Lawrence, playing for Bill Self on K-Nation

LAWRENCE (KSNT) - As a kid who grew up playing basketball in Lawrence, Kansas, Zeke Mayo always dreamed of being able to don the crimson and blue on the court.

Now, in his fourth season of college basketball, Mayo gets that chance. The reigning Summit League player of the year and former South Dakota State Jackrabbit announced his commitment to KU back in April. He joined K-Nation's Caroline Soro in a one-on-one interview to discuss his experience so far.

Through the offseason, the Lawrence native has impressed head coach Bill Self. KU's longtime coach said on The Field of 68 podcast that it'd be hard to keep Mayo out of the starting five.

"Just hearing it from him obviously it means a lot, but I know at the end of the day the job's not done," Mayo said. "I've got to go out there and compete. I try not make it all about me but hearing those words it means a lot just to let me know I'm doing what I'm supposed to, just exceeding my expectations so far."

As for taking the floor in Allen Fieldhouse for the first time on Nov. 5?

"[There's] obviously going to be some nerves," Mayo said. "But I'm just going to go out and play basketball like I have been."

The full interview with Mayo aired in Sunday's episode of K-Nation and can be watched above.
