Fans Think Patriots Did Jacoby Brissett Dirty With This YouTube Caption
Jacoby Brissett might want to stay away from the New England Patriots’ official YouTube page for the time being.
That’s because the Patriots’ YouTube page, which routinely uses quotes to caption its press conferences, painted Brissett in a poor light Monday when it published Jerod Mayo’s video conference. The caption served as a bit of a jab at Brissett given the limited character count did not have the benefit of added context.
The caption: “(Jacoby Brissett) Just Wasn’t Good Enough.”
Check it out in the screenshot below:
For reference, other YouTube captions of press conferences highlighted more team-related issues or positive quotes like “‘We Just Need To Play Better.'” or “‘It Just Wasn’t A Good Day.'”
It caused quite a stir among Patriots fans after the Boston Herald’s Zack Cox shed some light on the caption. Some Patriots fans called it “disgusting” while others believed it was the team’s way of making the starting quarterback the scapegoat.
@ThatJohnIrons posted on X: “This is absolutely disgusting. This isn’t ‘transparency’ — this is scapegoating a guy who’s been a consummate professional (and a captain).”
@CH_Seventeen posted on X: “Classy”
@AtomicDawg5150 posted on X: “That title is brutal. I mean my God.”
@KyleGunzinger posted on X: “Man who does he throw under the bus next man this is absolutely sickening I don’t think Brissett has been good but Mayo does know other players you may want later may be less likely to come if they think he’ll toss them under the bus too”
@Ironhead334 posted on X: “We have our escape goat.”
Mayo did seem open to replacing Brissett with rookie quarterback Drake Maye following the former’s performance against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
