Shadows and Sunbeams over Turin, Italy
Photographer: Piero ArmandoSummary Author: Piero ArmandoOne evening this past June, the interplay of light and shadows from cloud formations I observed during sunset in Turin, Italy caught my eye. Sun rays and cloud shadows were easily visible because of suspended dust in the lower atmosphere, which permitted the shadows to be projected. The source of the dust was likely from the Sahara Desert. Strong southerly winds lifted fine sand particles from the desert and carried them north over the Mediterranean Sea. Photo taken on June 10, 2024.
