Rams CB Tre’Davious White a healthy scratch from loss to Packers

INGLEWOOD – Rams cornerback Tre’Davious White was among the team’s inactives in Sunday’s 24-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers after starting the first four games of the season for the team.

White was healthy, with head coach Sean McVay describing the move as a “coach’s decision” after activating Darious Williams from injured reserve and bringing Ahkello Witherspoon up from the practice squad.

“He’s been a pro in every sense of the word,” McVay said of White. “But we get Darious back, we felt like we were going to have a larger role for Ahkello. There are some special teams considerations that go into it, so that was what resulted in him being inactive today.”

White was on the sidelines for Sunday’s loss and in the locker room after the game.

The eight-year veteran signed a one-year, $4.25 million free-agent contract with the Rams this offseason after tearing his Achilles in 2023 while playing with the Bills. Per Pro Football Focus, White has allowed nine receptions on 13 targets this season, resulting in 151 yards and four touchdowns. He was also called for a pass interference penalty in the end zone last week, resulting in a touchdown for the Bears in that Rams loss.

White’s absence was one of several secondary shuffles for the Rams against the Packers. Quentin Lake moved back from star corner to safety, resulting in less playing time for rookie Kamren Kinchens and increased opportunities for undrafted rookie Josh Wallace at star.

The Rams also utilized some six-DB packages with three safeties and three corners on the field. This package resulted in rookie Jaylen McCollough’s interception that he returned for a touchdown in the second quarter.

“We were scheming on their chipper protection,” McCollough said. “I was just in the right place at the right time.”

Briefly

Rams left guard Logan Bruss was tended to by trainers during Sunday’s game with what appeared to be a right leg injury, limping off the field following quarterback Matthew Stafford’s third-quarter interception. But Bruss was able to return to the field on the next drive without missing a snap.
