B36 Apartment

B36 Apartment is a minimal apartment located in Jakarta, Indonesia, designed by SSOM STUDIO. The primary challenge was to ensure ample natural light throughout the apartment, while also providing unique experiences in each area through thoughtful material choices and a cohesive design language. The clients’ vision of a smart, uncluttered home was central to the project. They desired a spacious environment, where the use of open space was carefully balanced to avoid overcrowding. The design team focused on creating a versatile living area that could accommodate both family gatherings and social events.

Addressing the issue of a long, dark corridor leading to the private rooms, they implemented a strategy using smart dimmable ceiling lights that adjust to natural light levels throughout the day. A mirrored wall at the corridor’s end enhances the sense of space and light, transforming an otherwise confined passage into a visually engaging feature. Initially, the interior design incorporated multiple lines and layers. However, as the project progressed, a more streamlined approach emerged, reflecting the clients’ preference for simplicity. Drawing inspiration from yacht design, the team incorporated subtle horizontal lines and integrated storage solutions to maintain a sleek and dynamic aesthetic.
