'Trump keeps getting in the way' of the GOP’s voting plan: report

0

According to a Sunday Politico report, Republicans are aiming to convince as many voters as possible to vote ahead of Election Day, but "Donald Trump keeps getting in the way" of their plans.

GOP strategist Tricia McLaughlin told ABC News last month that "Republicans have to play the same game that Democrats play, which is early voting, legal ballot harvesting, doing everything, everything we can to get our voters out there to the ballot box, whether it be in-person, by mail or absentee."

However, Wisconsin GOP Chair Brian Schimming told Politico the MAGA hopeful "has not been a big fan of early voting in the past, and I’m not sure he’s much of a fan of it now."

Per Politico, "In just the last few weeks, the former president has dismissed early voting as 'stupid,' falsely claimed that 20 percent of mail ballots in Pennsylvania are 'fraudulent,' suggested mail carriers could 'lose hundreds of thousands of ballots, maybe purposefully,' and baselessly accused Democrats of exploiting a program that sends ballots to overseas and military voters to evade citizenship checks."

The news outlet noted last month that Republican leaders across the country "have acknowledged over the past year that discouraging their supporters from using every legal means of voting will only give Democrats" a leg up.

With less than 30 days until Election Day, the party has yet to get Trump's approval on the matter.

Politico emphasizes, "While Trump has sometimes come around — urging his supporters at rallies, in tele-rallies and through social media posts to take advantage of expanded voting options — Republicans warn his rhetoric is threatening to undermine it all."
