Energy expert shares 3p hack that will keep you warm through the night, you won’t need to touch the thermostat

THE nights are getting longer and the cold weather is setting in, and the temptation to reach for the thermostat is greater than ever.

In fact this coming winter is predicted to be one of the most challenging in recent years for the UK, with the likelihood of colder temperatures, increased snowfall, and heightened storm activity – and with it comes the familiar struggle: how do you stay warm without your energy bill skyrocketing?

Luckily there’s a simple trick for keeping you warm throughout the night, and it will cost you as little as a penny.

According to data, electric blankets cost just 3p an hour to run, which is all you’ll need to keep you cosy all night, as they use minimal energy.

Most run on about 100 watts, meaning you can warm your bed and yourself without cranking up the thermostat.

Adele Brennan, Home Electricals buyer at Vonhaus says, “For the best results, switch on your blanket about 30 minutes to an hour before bed to get that toasty warm feeling right as you snuggle in.

“In fact, you can set it on a timer to avoid accidentally leaving it on all night—just enough warmth to get you through the coldest hours.”

For those on the hunt for electric blankets, Amazon is currently offering the Monhouse Heated Throw for £20 cheaper than its RRP.

Reduced to £39.99 rather than £59.99 for the double size it comes with nine settings for heat and a timer that gives you up to nine hours before automatically switching off, you can mix and match your warmth quota.

Keep it low if you’re one of those hardy souls who doesn’t really feel the cold or whack it up high, if like me, you’re an icicle as soon as the sun disappears.

Amazon shoppers love it too. One reviewer wrote: “Over the winter this blanket has been an absolute godsend, and meant we can keep the heating down to a minimum overnight, saving us a small fortune in gas, it doesn’t use loads of electricity, so it’s a real cost saver.”

Another said: “I absolutely love this throw, can’t believe I didn’t purchase one sooner!

“It’s so comfy I can snuggle into it in the evenings and it’s big enough so I can put it on myself while I work from home.

“It literally costs pence to run and I’ve had it on for the max nine hours before.”
