6,000 cigarettes from north confiscated from coffee shop in Aradippou
A total of 6,000 cigarettes which had been illegally transported from the north to the Republic were confiscated from a coffee shop in Aradippou, the customs department said on Sunday.
The operation took place on Friday, with the cigarettes being stored in 30 boxes of 200 cigarettes each.
Inspections found that the cigarette packets did not bear the safety warnings in the Greek and Turkish language which are characteristic of tobacco products sold in the Republic, and also did not have a traceability code, as is also a requirement in the Republic.
The coffee shop’s owner was also initially arrested, and then handed a €2,500 fine before being released.
