TRANSCRIPT: Miss Cosmo 2024 Q&A portion
MANILA, Philippines – The top five candidates vying for the first-ever Miss Cosmo 2024 crown shared their thoughts during the question and answer portion of the pageant’s grand finale at the Saigon Riverside Park in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Saturday, October 5.
The Miss Cosmo 2024 contestants were each asked a question by a member of the jury panel and given 60 seconds to share their answers. Candidates who chose to answer the questions in their native language were given an interpreter. Here’s how each candidate responded:
Ketut Permata Juliastrid, Indonesia
Question: Miss Cosmo 2024 is a beauty pageant that not only emphasizes intellect and beauty but also sustainability. What is your contribution to a sustainable society?
My skills, I am equipped with all the skills. Being Puteri Indonesia of Tourism, I have an advocacy. It’s in sustainable tourism, where I try to preserve culture, because I believe that culture is an important aspect in order for us to be who we really are. Growing up in Bali, I am surrounded by rich traditional culture. It made me the woman I am today, and I have worked with local artisans, not only giving economic opportunities but also giving them platforms for the younger generation to take pride in their own culture, like how I take pride with my own culture. I am a Balinese and I will continue to say that I am a proud Balinese. I am a proud Indonesian, and I am here to make Indonesia proud today. Thank you.
Romina Lozano, Peru
Question: How would you use technology to drive impactful beauty?
(Translated by interpreter) We all know that technology is very [impactful] in our lives. As a queen of beauty in my city and my country, I am very insist to present the sustainable life, and like a woman from a rainforest from my country, we care about the environment and the problem of the rivers in my country.
Karnruethai Tassabut, Thailand
Question: I am wondering, if you win tonight, you will be the first-ever Miss Cosmo International, and you will have a big role in defining this new brand. In 20 years from now, what do you want the legacy of Miss Cosmo to be?
As the first Miss Cosmo 2024, I am absolutely honored to have that title. However, it is very important to use that and use the platform wisely. For example, this year, we have so many activities related to the local communication. Like, for me, myself, I work closely with the local farmers back in my hometown. We always think to move things big in the future, but actually, it starts within ourselves, so it is very important to know that the change starts within you. Take the initiative to change and remember that legacy is on the matter of the first step, just like the first year of Miss Cosmo. Thank you very much.
Samantha Elliott, USA
Question: What initiatives would you champion to create a safer environment for LGBTQ+ youth who face discrimination?
As someone that has faced bullying first-hand — if you guys can’t tell, I’m very tall, that did not make well for my childhood. But I understand how those LGBTQ+ students feel and not feeling safe going to school. And so, as Miss Cosmo, it’s important that when you go to events, you’re welcoming, you’re inviting, you’re making sure that everyone you see feels safe and feels heard. And that’s a legacy I would love to carry as Miss Cosmo. Thank you.
Bùi Thị Xuân Hạnh, Vietnam
Question: Should someone be successful in order to be impactful?
With me, a successful can give the empowering beauty, and everything like to everybody. Because they have to work hard, they do believe in what they want and what they want to do. So, when they [succeed], that means they have to do work hard and they do believe in themselves, and that’s the reason why they can give the [inspiration] to another. And I believe that, me, if I win as Miss Cosmo 2024, I can work hard, I can act, not just talk, and I can do everything that I believe in myself. And I work more for charity, for community. And I am Vietnamese. Thank you.
