Not a straightforward signing

Bergvall was considered by many in the game to be one of the best young talents in European football, which is why Spurs had to battle hard to win the race for the youngster.

The Standard point out that the youngster already had an invite from Barca in January and that Spurs were ‘rank outsiders’ to sign him at one stage of the window.

It is revealed that Johan Lange played a major role in conversations with the midfielder as well as his family, laying out the club’s vision for him.

Tottenham went above and beyond

It is revealed that Lange’s conversation with Bergvall revolved primarily around the club’s playing style, with the Tottenham sporting director explaining to the player how he would fit into Ange Postecoglou’s set-up.

The 18-year-old and his family visited Hotspur Way a day before they were scheduled to meet with Barca, with Spurs reportedly pulling out all the stops to convince the youngster that they would be the right fit for him.

The outlet adds that Bergvall was ‘bowled over’ by the club’s state-of-the-art training centre and Postecoglou’s unwavering belief in his footballing philosophy.

Help from the Swedish contingent

The report explains that it is not just Daniel Levy, Postecoglou and Lange who did the leg work to get the deal over the line, but also Tottenham’s Swedish contingent.

Both Dejan Kulusevski and Spurs Women’s coach, Robert Vilahamn, allegedly gave the youngster ‘the hard sell’ on the club.

The publication adds that the teenager was won over by Kulusevski’s infectious enthusiasm for the project underway in North London.
