Guardians ALDS Roster Announced
Some brief analysis
The Guardians announced their ALDS roster:
Notable:
-It’s good news that Alex Cobb will be healthy enough to pitch.
-Gavin Williams matches up better against the Tigers than Ben Lively. I also suspect Lively may need extended time off after a career high innings load.
-Cantillo over Pedro Avila is a bit of a shock and quite a vote of confidence in the rookie. The Tigers' best hitters are lefties, so I suspect this is the primary reason.
-Walters over Sandlin was absolutely necessary. Thank goodness they realized that.
-Interesting to see Fry listed as a catcher. If that elbow is finally healthy enough for him to play there, that's a potential game-changer in terms of getting as many lefty mashers in the lineup as possible and limiting Hedges' plate appearances (to NONE).
-My only criticism is Schneemann. But this is a sign that the team believes he is a better hitter than what he has shown since July and their confidence in his defensive versatility. They do NOT believe in Angel Martinez as a backup shortstop, that much is very clear.
-Tyler Freeman returning as a pinch-runner/lefty-masher/defensive sub for Thomas in CF as needed is interesting. I had thought this role would be Myles Straw's but the team rightly realizes that Freeman offers far more if he is needed to take an at-bat.
Let's ride!
