Scammers posing as law enforcement have hit St. Martin Parish
ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- A ridiculously popular scam involving impersonating law enforcement has come to St. Martin Parish, authorities said.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said it has received complaints over the last couple of days of callers representing themselves as a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. The callers instruct you to send money, either cash, money orders, green dot cards, checks, gift cards, Bitcoins, Venmo, Apple Pay, Pay Pal, etc.
These types of scams circulate frequently and are often based in foreign countries.
If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately, and report it to your local law enforcement agency. Please note that the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, or most any law enforcement agency, will never call you at any time for money for any reason.
