Cohoes man admits to feeding baby crystal meth

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Anthony Ojeda pleaded guilty in court Friday to first-degree manslaughter in connection to the death of a six-week-old baby in 2019. Neil Garzon, Ojeda's husband, pleaded guilty to first-degree hindering prosecution and endangering the welfare of a child.

Ojeda's six-week-old son Eli was found unresponsive in an apartment by Cohoes Police on December 3, 2019. The infant died at the hospital. An autopsy determined he died of acute methamphetamine toxicity and physical trauma.

In 2019 Ojeda was initially charged with manslaughter and second-degree assault. Weeks later bail reform caused Ojeda to be released on probation. Following COVID-related court delays, Ojeda's charges were increased, and he was indicted for second-degree murder.

While still on probation, Ojeja, aided by Garzon, fled New York for Mexico. Court documents say Garzon rented the getaway vehicle he and Ojeda used to flee. The pair landed on US Marshall's Top 15 Most Wanted List. Both men were extradited to the US in 2024.

District Attorney David Soares revealed neither man is the child's biological father. Soares did not clarify how the husbands obtained the infant.

Ojeda and Garzon will be sentenced on January 10, 2025, around 9:30 a.m.
