'Suspicious device' on Ratone Street was identified by RCPD
MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Police have disclosed what the "suspicious device" was that temporarily shut down a Manhattan road.
Ashley Tokoi, the Public Information Officer with the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) told 27 News that officers have discovered what was the "suspicious device" that was found in the 1000 block of Ratone Street Thursday, Oct. 3.
According to Tokoi, RCPD and the Manhattan Fire Department (MFD) responded to a call of a suspicious device in the 1000 block of Ratone Street around 7:16 p.m, and the bomb team was paged to the scene at 7:25 p.m.
After investigating, the suspicious device was determined to be the battery from a solar power light that was struck by a lawn mower and went through the window of a house on that block. At 9:17 p.m., RCPD posted that the device was benign, and there is no longer a threat to the public.
There were no injuries reported with this incident and no residents in the 1000 block of Ratone Street had to evacuate; RCPD asked residents to remain inside until the incident was resolved.
