Match Preview: Queen’s Park vs Hamilton Academical

0

Fourth placed Queen’s Park host fifth placed Hamilton Academical in the William Hill Championship on Saturday with both sides looking to start October with a bang.

In the last 42 years The Spiders and The Accies have shared a league only once, and that came just two seasons ago, and the Southside of Glasgow side are hoping to match the four wins they secured in the league that campaign.

After a 1-1 draw in the League Cup that Hamilton won 5-3 on penalties that season, Queen’s Park earned a 2-0 Championship success in Lanarkshire with Simon Murray and Grant Savoury finding the net.

In December, in a game played at Hampden, Owen Coyle’s side won 4-0 with Savoury, opening and closing the scoring, Murray and Josh McPake netting in-between times with all the goals coming in the first half.

Two months later QP secured a 4-1 success at Hamilton with different goalscorers in Jack Thomson, Aaron Healy and Connor Shields who hit two with Dom Thomas producing the best touch of his career to set up Shields for one of his strikes.

The final meeting of Season 2022/ 23 was a much tighter affair at Ochilview with a second half strike from Savoury winning the day.

Members of the Queen’s Park Media Team met with Callum and Zach Mauchin to look forward and look back.

Callum covered:

· Glen’s Manager of the Month Award
· Make it a Double!
· Defending well at Dunfermline but let’s create more chances
· Hamilton doing well after promotion
· Working hard to get a result
· Player Availability

The season so far
With three wins and two draws from seven games Queen’s Park have accumulated 11 points with is two more than Hamilton who have won and drawn twice from their eight matches.

Queen’s have defeated Airdrie, Morton and Dunfermline so far with the Accies seeing off Dunfermline in August and Partick Thistle, just last weekend, with a goal from former Queen’s Park player Lee Kilday.

Hamilton’s draws came against Morton, which was goalless, and Raith Rovers a fortnight ago which finished 3-3. That game showed the fighting spirit that John Rankin has instilled into his team as Hamilton were two goals down however two goals in the last 11 minutes secured a point.

Rankin’s sides’ interest in the Premier Sports Cup ended in the Group stages after draws with Stirling Albion and Raith, a win at Stranraer and a defeat from Ross County.

After the final whistle at Hampden, Hamilton are heading to Morton as their interest in the SPFL Trust Trophy remains.
