After the Buzzer – Vipers Shut Out by Silverbacks in 4-0 Loss

0

Salmon Arm, BC:  The Vernon Vipers were shut out for the first time this season, falling 4-0 to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday night at Rogers Rink.

The game remained scoreless after a closely contested first period. However, early in the second, Salmon Arm’s captain Maddux Martin opened the scoring. Shortly after, the Vipers successfully killed a penalty to keep it close, but couldn’t capitalize on two powerplay opportunities.

In the third, a Vernon turnover allowed Caleb Mahar to double the Silverbacks’ lead with his second goal of the season. Liam Bursaw then added a third on a wraparound before Martin sealed the game with his second goal.

Vernon’s Marko Bilic made 28 saves on 32 shots, while Salmon Arm’s Ryan Grout stopped all 20 shots he faced.

With the loss, the Vipers drop to 0-4-1-0, while the Silverbacks improve to 3-1-1-0. Vernon will look to bounce back on Saturday night as they host the Penticton Vees at Kal Tire Place.
