Eminem Is Going to Be a Grandpa
Eminem has taken on many identities over the years. On October 3, he introduced his latest — grandfather — in the music video for his song “Temporary.” The premise of the song is that he has died and is sending a message to his daughter Hailie Jade from the afterlife. It directly references his 2004 hit “Mockingbird,” both in the lyrics and in the music video itself. The video features family photos and home movies of Hailie from childhood, as well as footage from her wedding day. In the final minute, she is shown handing her father a blue jersey with “GRANDPA” printed across the back and a sonogram.
Hailie is 28 and married her longtime partner, Evan McClintock, in a lavish Battle Creek, Michigan, ceremony this past May. The budding Joanna Gaines has been documenting her home renovation on Instagram and launched a podcast, Just a Little Shady, in 2022. She has been the recipient of several public apologies from her father over the decades, the most recent of which is on “Somebody Save Me” from The Death of Slim Shady, the same album that features “Temporary.” In the song, which he performed at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, he apologizes for missing the birth of her “first child,” her podcast. Eminem won’t be the only celebrity to welcome a blue-chip nepo grandbaby this year; Courtney Love and Tony Hawk just became grandparents as well. Congrats to Hailie on her pregnancy, and here’s hoping that an Eminem x Ms. Rachel track is just around the corner.
