Jamie Foxx's Daughter Celebrated Big Milestone From His Rehab Facility
Corrine Foxx, the actress daughter of Jamie Foxx, married her longtime boyfriend Joe Hooten at her father's Thousand Oaks, CA home last month. The occasion was most certainly a joyous one, particularly after the 56-year-old actor and comedian had suffered a mysterious, life-threatening medical emergency last year.
But as the newlywed explained to Vogue in a new piece about her nuptials this week, they managed to incorporate Foxx into their engagement, even as he lay recuperating at a Chicago rehab facility.
Hooten had initially planned to pop the question with an elaborate proposal in Ireland last spring. However, it was April 2023 that Foxx was hospitalized after an unspecified medical emergency while filming his new action movie Back in Action, co-starring Cameron Diaz, in Atlanta. Corrine was also the one to break the news to the world, and quickly flew out to be by her father's side, ostensibly putting the kibosh on the planned engagement.
"When my dad [Jamie Foxx] got sick, our plans changed, and we ended up spending our summer in Chicago while he recovered," Corrine told the publication, in the interview published on Thursday. "Little did I know that Joe had changed his plans so he could still propose on the same day—just in a different city. He found a park in Chicago that had cherry blossoms in bloom and proposed there."
"He flew in my mom from Los Angeles and had my aunts hiding in a bush FaceTiming my dad the entire time," she continued. "He even planned a very special post-engagement party in my dad’s room [at a physical rehabilitation center] in Chicago. It was a small celebration, but it was so intimate and meaningful."
Foxx has still not publicly commented about the medical episode that left him out of commission for the better part of a year. However, over the summer, in a candid, filmed conversation with fans, the Ray star insinuated that a common, over-the-counter medication had triggered the ailment.
"Look, April 11 last year, [I had a] bad headache [and] asked my boy for an Advil," Foxx said, then snapping his fingers to suggest that what what triggered the episode. "I was gone for 20 days. I don't remember anything."
Back in Action has since wrapped filming and is scheduled to be released on Netflix on Jan. 17, 2025. While Foxx was hospitalized, body doubles were reportedly used to film his remaining scenes.
