News and Notes: Brewers Blow It, Alonso Advances Mets
News and Notes for Friday, October 4th, 2024
The Brewers' excellent closer surrendered a go-ahead three-run homer to Pete Alonso and the Mets won 4-2 to advance to the NLDS.
I saw after the game Brewers talking about how close this team is and how much they care about each other - another reminder that vibes don't count for much if you don't execute. Former Guardians Tobias Myers (5 scoreless) and Jake Bauers (solo homer) had good games for the Brew Crew. Lindor started the comeback for the Mets by drawing a walk.
Terry Francona is returning to manage the Reds. This will cause controversy but he had shoulder surgery and two hernia repairs and lost 25 pounds this past season. That sounds like more than enough justification to step away. Now, he'll share the same Spring Training facility with the Guardians and I highly doubt there is any bad will. Nice that he picked a National League team.
Nicole and I did a playoff preview for Disgusting Baseball you can listen to here.
Meisel had another great article about the dynamic between Guardians coaches.
