‘Bye Messi bye’: Cristiano Ronaldo takes cheeky dig at Lionel Messi in new YouTube video celebrating 900 goals
New Delhi: Cristiano Ronaldo’s YouTube channel recently threw some shade at Lionel Messi and other football legends in one of their latest videos. The Portuguese superstar tried to overtake fellow footballers as he attempts to make history by becoming the first player to reach 900 career goals in a Formula 1-themed race.
In the video, Ronaldo is represented as a Formula 1 driver, moving through different incredible scenarios, racing past several notable figures, including Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Pelé. The scene is narrated in a voiceover like a competitive race, showing the Al Nassr superstar starting off from the back of the grid and eventually taking the pole position by the end.
By the end of the video, Ronaldo is passing the likes of Messi and Pele, the voiceover says:
“He passes Pele they show respect to each other but wait his toughest opponent is here – Lionel Messi! And Cristiano pushes himself to the max and passes the Argentinian! Bye Messi, bye! Cristiano is over 900 (and) this is unreal! A thousand goals are within reach. Join us next time to witness together as he reaches the one 1,000 goals mark”
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 900 career goals when he scored against Croaia in September. The 39-year-old is now targeting 1000 goals despite acknowledging he is close to finish his career.
When asked about his goal tally approaching 1,000, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed himself to be more than willing to achieve the feat. The Portuguese star once took a veiled dig at Pelé’s goal tally when he stated it is impossible to confirm all goals ascribed during playing days.
“I want to reach 1,000 goals. If I don’t have any injuries, this for me is the most important [thing], I want that. For me, the best mark that I can have in football is to reach, first, 900 goals. After, my challenge is to be at 1,000 goals. All the goals I have scored, they have video. They all have video. Listen, I respect all of them [Pele and Di Stefano]. And if you want more goals, I can bring them from training, too. And I will prove to the people after. They prefer this player, or this is the best one. I don’t care about that.”
Cristiano Ronaldo currently has 904 career goals and continues to shine for Al Nassr. He will also be joining the Portugal national team this month for their UEFA Nations League matches, further adding to his remarkable goal-scoring journey.
