New Delhi: Fresh from 2-0 whitewash over Bangladesh in the Test series recently, India captain Rohit Sharma met 2010 FIFA World Cup winner and legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas at the NBA Abu Dhabi Game on Friday. The duo were present during the game between Boston Celtics and the Denver Nuggets. Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh was also seen at the game. Incidentally, Rohit is a Real Madrid fan and Casillas played for the La Liga side for a major part of his club career.

Not just the two World Cup-winning captains, stars like Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho were also present during the game. Big Boss fame Tajikistani singer Abdu Rozik was also present. Rozik also clicked a picture with Rohit. Rohit, who was the first captain to win five Indian Premier League titles, led India to a T20 World Cup win earlier in the year, thus ending the Men in Blue’s 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. Casillas was the captain of the fames Spanish team that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Spain had defeated Netherlands in the final to lift their first-ever FIFA World Cup title. Casillas was also the goalkeeper of the Spain side that won back-to-back European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012.

At Real Madrid, Casillas won multiple La Liga titles, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Supercopa de Espana, Copa Del Rey, Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He spent most of his career at Real Madrid before moving to Porto towards the end of his career.

The Abu Dhabi Games is an international showcase of the NBA, which complements the NBA Mexico City Game 2024, NBA Canada Series and NBA Paris Games 2025 as the NBA pushes for a wider reach outside its traditional fanbase in the United States of America.
