Portland Marathon to impact traffic on several downtown bridges over the weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Officials are warning drivers and pedestrians to potentially find alternative routes this weekend due to several downtown bridges being impacted by the Portland Marathon.

The Broadway, Burnside, Morrison, Sellwood and Hawthorne bridges will all have full or partial closures of certain traffic, walking and bike lanes for various periods of time on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Multnomah County, which maintains all the affected bridges, said in a release that people should "Plan ahead for potential traffic delays and use caution while traveling in the downtown area."

Below is the complete list of the detailed information on all of the bridges that will be impacted, per the county:

Broadway Bridge 

On Sunday, Oct. 6 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., the Broadway Bridge will be closed to all motorized vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists for the event. 

Burnside Bridge 

On Sunday, Oct. 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., one westbound lane on the Burnside Bridge will be closed to all motorized vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists for the event. 

Morrison Bridge

On Sunday, Oct. 6 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. the south sidewalk and bike lane will be closed on the Morrison Bridge for the event.

Sellwood Bridge  

On Sunday, Oct. 6 from 6:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. the westbound lane on the Sellwood Bridge will be closed for the event.

Hawthorne Bridge 

On Sunday, Oct. 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the S.E. Water Avenue ramp will be closed for the event.

OHSU Health has been presenting the Portland Marathon since 1972. The charity fundraising event hosts up to 10,000 participants each year. This year will include four distances: a marathon, half marathon, the first-ever Quantum Fiber 10k and the Doernbecher Kids 1 Mile Run.
