Glenn Hoddle not happy with what he is seeing from Spurs in certain games

Glenn Hoddle was not overly pleased with Tottenham’s performance against Ferencvaros even though the North London club emerged with a 2-1 win – and he believes a pattern is emerging.

Plenty of positives for Spurs

As expected, Ange Postecoglou rang the changes for Tottenham’s trip to Hungary, with only four players keeping their place in the starting eleven from the club’s 3-0 win over Man Utd.

The Tottenham head coach handed full debuts to both Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore, and the pair certainly had some promising moments, with the latter impressing with his dribbling and his close control.

Spurs deservedly emerged 2-1 winners through goals from Pape Sarr and substitute, Brennan Johnson, and they could have had a lot more if they had been a little more clinical at the back.

Hoddle not a happy man

However, Hoddle was far from pleased with the defensive side of Tottenham’s game, with the Spurs legend insisting that the Lilywhites need to be a lot tighter at the back.

The pundit suggested that Postecoglou’s men would be punished by better opponents if they played in the manner that they did at the Groupama Arena.

The former Tottenham manager told TNT Sports (3/10/24 – 19:35): “Whoever Spurs are playing, they’re getting too many chances, even back to that Coventry game.

“They’ve just got to look tight. It’s lovely going forward, but there are two sides to football, when you’ve got it and when you’ve not got it. They’ve just got to sort that out if they’re going to go on and beat better opponents.”

Spurs building momentum

Tottenham have now registered five consecutive wins in all competitions, which is the first time they have done this since March 2021 (Squawka).

Postecoglou will be delighted with the momentum that his side is now building after a difficult start to the season, with Spurs arguably already having one foot in the knockout stages of the Europa League.
