South African electricity sector’s migration to multimarket structure under way

South Africa's energy market was liberalising and evolving, with State efforts to establish a stable and effective framework and moving at pace on energy transition matters, along with private-sector readiness, prompting the market to anticipate accelerated implementation. Demand aggregation, energy trading, private developers undertaking grid upgrades and debottlenecking parts of the grid as part of large infrastructure projects were increasingly becoming a feature of the energy sector to overcome the various challenges of scale, variability and grid constraints.
