'Weirdest promo I’ve ever seen': Anderson Cooper glitches over Melania Trump's book promo

Anderson Cooper had difficulty maintaining his composure Thursday night when he appeared to be astonished by Melania Trump’s unconventional black-and-white promo video for her new book for the first time, quipping: “Never seen that before.”

“Sorry, it’s the first time I’ve seen that – that's the weirdest promo I’ve ever seen – like the lighting,” Cooper said before shuddering and telling viewers, “Sorry, I’ve written four books, I’ve never seen a promo like that. Wow.”

“I’ve recovered my shock,” he said moments later before introducing his slate of panelists.

The moment came days before the Oct. 8 release of the former first lady’s book “Melania.” In the promo aired on Cooper’s show “Anderson Cooper 360,” Mrs. Trump voices her support for abortion rights, a key issue in the 2024 election.

Notably, as president, her husband's three hand-picked Supreme Court justice appointees voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Fellow CNN host Kaitlan Collins told Cooper that she believes the promo’s release with just about a month to go before Election Day was a strategic decision.

“I think she has this book, she's been doing a series of videos like this – maybe none is dramatic as this one – but it's coming out in a few days, and she very clearly wants to be able to sell copies to have this book be a bestseller,” Collins said. “So that is why she's coming out and she's very strategic, she knows what will make news and what will get headlines.”

“It’s fascinating, I’ve never seen that before,” Cooper quipped about the promo. “I usually just do it on the camera phone.”
