ODOT to close I-5 southbound lanes overnight due to emergency water line repairs
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two lanes of Interstate 5 southbound will close overnight Thursday so transportation officials can make emergency water line repairs, authorities said.
The lane closures will happen from 10 p.m. Thursday evening through 5 a.m. on Friday, near the offramp for Southwest Multnomah Boulevard at exit 296B.
While this repair work is expected to impact traffic, it won’t completely shut down that portion of the road. Transportation officials said one lane of traffic will remain open.
In a release, the Oregon Department of Transportation said it will conduct the repairs and work to “determine the extent of the damage from a waterline break.”
“These overnight repairs will require core drilling two lanes to assess damage caused to the Highway by the waterline breaks,” ODOT added. “Traffic delays are expected as the three-lane interstate is reduced to one lane overnight.”
The impacted area is located between mileposts 296.7 and 297.00 in Portland.
