Man accused of identity theft hours after appearing on Portland's CW
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Authorities say a man was arrested in Vancouver for identity theft just hours after appearing on Everyday Northwest on Portland's CW as a model.
According to Vancouver police, officers received a report from a cell phone store after a suspect presented a fake ID and business credentials.
The suspect, later identified as Jonathan M. Alvarado, secured a $30,000 line of credit and got $13,000 worth of phones, iPads and services before saying he'd be back later in the week for more items, police said.
The suspect was spotted by regional loss prevention who said they recognized him from previous incidents around the area and they found his Facebook page, under his real name, where he was selling the stolen items, according to investigators.
Throughout the day, detectives said they gathered details from multiple sources and then they caught Alvarado when he returned for another batch of phones.
Police said that Alvarado was wearing jewelry that matched items seen in the backgrounds of the stolen property online.
Earlier in the day, the suspect had appeared on Everyday Northwest on Portland's CW as a model for a segment on FashioNXT. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was wearing the same outfit he wore on TV that morning, according to Vancouver police.
