Police seek repeat Tigard-Tualatin School District burglary suspect

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police are releasing surveillance video in an attempt to identify someone who they say is a repeat burglar suspect of the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

For more than a year, the man was caught on video "several" times targeting the Tigard-Tualatin School District Resource Wing on Southwest Murdock Street, the Tigard Police Department said in a release on Thursday.

The building stores clothing and other resources for students in need as part of the district's Caring Closet program. It's also the site of the district's Family Resouce Center and the Tigard-Tualatin Virtual Academy.

Tigard police publicly released surveillance video of the suspect, which shows the man and the car he is believed to be associated with.

Police also gave the following timeline and descriptions of the reported burglaries:

• On 9/24/24 between 3:15 – 5:30 a.m. a man broke a window, crawled inside the building and stole clothing and shoes.
• On 9/10/24 someone broke a window on a porch. 
• On 8/5/24 at 3:20 a.m. a man broke into the building, rummaged through offices and damaged cabinets, then stole various items, including two laptops. In this case, the suspect left the stolen property nearby and it was recovered before the suspect could return.
• On 12/28/23 a man broke into the building and stole speakers.
• On 8/9/23 at 4:45 a.m. someone broke a window and items inside were moved around, but it’s unclear whether anything was stolen.

The school district has since adopted more security measures, including installing additional motion detectors "and other deterrents in an effort to stop this from happening in the future," police said.

"Anytime someone is burglarized, you lose that sense of safety," Kelsey Anderson, a Tigard police spokesperson, told KOIN 6 News. "Please help if you recognize this individual or the car he might be associated with, because we're really hoping to identify him so we can stop this from continuing."

If anyone recognizes the man or vehicle from the surveillance footage or has other information about burglaries, they're encouraged to contact Tigard police.

The investigation is ongoing.
