Mum who fatally injected ex-husband with poison caught red-handed with his dashcam

A mother-of-three who killed her ex-husband by injecting him with poison was busted through dashcam footage recorded in his car.

Amanda Hovonec, 37, was filmed in her estranged ex’s car wrestling him to the floor and then injecting him with M99 in the shoulder, according to investigators.

M99 is an anesthetic that is around 3,000 times more powerful than morphine and is used on rhinos and other zoo animals.

Timothy Hovanec, who divorced Amanda in 2020, was returning their children to her on the evening of April 24, court documents state. Amanda and her mother Anita Green were waiting outside her home in Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Green led the children in telling them, ‘I have a surprise for you inside.’

Meanwhile, Amanda jumped on Timothy as he unloaded the kids’ car sets, per a sentencing brief.

His dashcam recorded him saying: ‘What the heck are you doing? Did you just assault me? Get away from me… get off of me.’

Amanda was captured on video forcing Timothy to the ground and holding him by the neck until he went limp and lost consciousness, said prosecutors.

The mom turned off the car engine which stopped the dashcam recording, and then put a plastic bag over Timothy’s head and body to prevent ‘fluids secreting’ and spreading, court documents read.

Amanda confessed to injecting him and knowing that he would die in a matter of minutes.

She admitted to receiving the poison from Saffa Anthony Theodorou, whom she had an affair with while Timothy lived in South Africa from 2018 to 2020 as part of his work as a US State Department researcher.

Amanda on Tuesday pleaded guilty to murdering Timothy. She has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

‘Hovanec’s violent and intentional actions were cold-blooded, calculated, and cruel,’ stated US Attorney Rebecca Lutzko for the Northern District of Ohio.

‘Her extreme malevolence toward her husband and complete disregard for how his murder would affect their innocent children is incomprehensible and unforgivable.’

Green pleaded guilty to being an accessory to the crimes done by Amanda and Theodorou, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison plus two years of supervised release.

Theodorou is scheduled to be sentenced onThursday.
