10/03/2024: Seasonably Warm Air Has an End Date

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:

High pressure will build again across Eastern New York and Western New England, yielding another mostly fabulous stretch of weather through the weekend. A cold front will bring a band of showers overnight Friday into very early Saturday morning. A more potent cold front is forecast to swing through the region early next week, bringing our first true, sustained shot of October-like temperatures this season!

Areas north and west of Albany saw some clearing overnight, but the lack of wind and a bit of moisture left over from yesterday's front has led to some patchy dense fog. Capital Region-south and east, meanwhile, kept the clouds overnight, allowing for a milder, fogless start to the day. Any fog or widespread cloud cover will dissipate by mid morning, allowing for mostly sunny skies for the remainder of the daytime. Temperatures will peak in the low to mid 70s in most areas.

A cool, crisp night is ahead for all, with another chance for patchy dense fog by daybreak. Low temperatures will drop into the 40s to near 50 degrees, which is still warmer than average for this time of year.

Another winner is in store for most of Friday, but an approaching cold front may lead to a cloudier finish to the day. Highs will peak in the low to mid 70s again before we cloud up. A band of showers will accompany that cold front as it looks to come through solely between midnight and 11 PM Friday evening and 6 PM Saturday morning, so very minimal impacts to weekend plans are anticipated from this disturbance.

Perhaps a few clouds linger early Saturday morning, but it should be a very similar day to today where we become increasingly bright by lunchtime. High temperatures will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s Saturday and Sunday, with a mostly sunny day expected.

A stronger cold front will move through early next week. You'll notice more wind, clouds, and a few rain showers on Monday, keeping temperatures in the 60s. A strong upper level trough will center itself north of our region, but will influence our weather for all of next week. The Climate Prediction Center is favoring our area for below-average temperatures during this stretch of days.

Keep in mind... The average high in Albany will drop through the mid 60s over the next 6-10 days... The cooldown will ramp up a notch by Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures stuck in the 50s for most areas with a continued breeze. Shower chances, however, look limited. Enjoy the warm conditions while we have them, because they appear limited for us!
