The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that the main focus of the sixth Moscow Format meeting is to support national reconciliation in Afghanistan and strengthen cooperation between regional countries and Kabul in political, economic, counter-terrorism, and anti-drug efforts.

The meeting is set to take place in Moscow on Friday, with representatives from Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan expected to attend.

During a news conference, Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that the core part of the meeting will be held behind closed doors. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will deliver a key address.

Zakharova also mentioned that Lavrov will have a side meeting with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to discuss critical issues related to their bilateral cooperation.

Muttaqi departed for Russia on Wednesday.

The Moscow Format meeting reflects ongoing efforts to foster regional stability and support Afghanistan in various sectors, emphasizing cooperation among neighboring countries in key areas like counter-terrorism and anti-drug measures.

With significant participation from key regional players, the meeting could pave the way for enhanced diplomatic relations and stronger collaborative frameworks between Afghanistan and its neighbors, potentially shaping the region’s political landscape.
