Michigan reporter confronts Vance: 'Why did you not answer the question last night?'

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) was confronted by a Michigan reporter during visit to the Great Lake State Wednesday, about a question the 2024 vice presidential nominee dodged during his debate against Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz Tuesday night.

Referring to Donald Trump's ploy to overturn the 2020 election — which included the January 6 attack on the US Capitol — Walz said during his debate against Vance: "This was a threat to our democracy in a way that we had not seen. And it manifested itself because of Donald Trump’s inability to say, he is still saying he didn’t lose the election. I would just ask that. Did he lose the 2020 election?"

The GOP senator replied, "Tim, I’m focused on the future. Did Kamala Harris censor Americans from speaking their mind in the wake of the 2020 COVID situation?"

"That is a damning non answer," Walz asserted.

Will Jones, a reporter with Michigan's Local News 4, asked Vance the same question Wednesday in front of the Auburn Hills crowd.

"I spoke with some election officials last week about their concern with people who are trying to undermine our elections," Jones said. "Why did you not answer the question last night during the debate about who won the 2020 presidential election?"

Vance replied, "Here's the simple reason: The media is obsessed with talking about the election from four years ago. I'm focused on the election 33 days from now. "

Ahead of the Republican lawmaker's appearance, the Harris-Walz campaign on Wednesday morning released an ad showing Vance's refusal to answer the question about who won the 2020 election.

The ad — which was posted to X — garnered one million views in less than three hours.
