We’ve got three candidates for our latest POTM vote.

September was a bit of a weird month for Reading. After six games in August, the first international break of the season meant the Royals played just three games, all of which were in the league.

First up: a poor performance and frustrating defeat at home to previously winless Leyton Orient at the SCL Stadium. Then, following news that Rob Couhig’s takeover attempt had fallen through, things went from bad to worse in Greater Manchester, with Bolton Wanderers running out 5-2 winners. However, Reading recovered well the following weekend, coming from behind to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 at home.

So not a great September, and not a lot of game time to judge from either, meaning picking out a player of the month is a tad tricky. But we’re going to ask you to do that anyway, from this shortlist...

Michael Craig

Average rating: 5.67 / Man of the match awards: 3rd (Leyton Orient H), 3rd (Bolton Wanderers A)

Craig had a solid month at right-back, playing in all but seven minutes of the three League One matches. He seems to be getting more and more comfortable with his new position, having shifted there at the start of the season, and came out of September’s defeats with more credit than most, including Reading’s other defenders.

Ben Elliott

Average rating: 6 / Man of the match awards: 1st (Leyton Orient H), 1st (Bolton Wanderers A)

You wait ages for a first league goal, then two come at once! Elliott opened his League One account with a lovely finish in the 5-2 defeat at Bolton before doubling his tally with a winner against Huddersfield the following weekend.

His September average rating of 6/10 is the highest of anyone in the squad who started all three games, and he was picked out as man of the match on two occasions. One of those was the Orient defeat when he was one of few to have performed well, showing how much more capable he is of influencing games this season.

Harvey Knibbs

Average rating: 6 / Man of the match awards: 2nd (Bolton Wanderers A), 2nd (Huddersfield Town H)

Knibbs made a positive return to action in September, playing in all three games and immediately reminding us how industrious and important in the press he is to this team. The best of his performances was the Huddersfield game, when he scored a classic Knibbs goal, stealing the ball in the final third before finishing confidently.
