Why is NASA turning off Voyager 2’s instruments in deep space, 12 billion miles from home?

NASA has turned off a critical instrument on Voyager 2 to save power. This will help extend the spacecraft's mission into the 2030s. Voyager 2, launched in 1977, is now exploring interstellar space with its twin, Voyager 1. Both spacecraft continue to provide valuable scientific data.
