Pakistani forces kill six Baloch militants in Balochistan operation
Pakistani officials reported on Wednesday that at least six rebels were killed in a security forces operation in Balochistan. They stated that Pakistan’s security forces targeted members of the “Baloch Liberation Army” near the border with Afghanistan and Iran.
Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, told the media on Wednesday, October 2, that “the Baloch Liberation Army, which has been declared illegal, killed many civilians and security forces in attacks across Balochistan in August.”
Balochistan has long been a scene of conflict, with several separatist groups carrying out attacks. According to the Associated Press, the province is also home to various active militant groups.
The Baloch Liberation Army, a separatist group, has been in conflict with the Pakistani government and military in Balochistan, carrying out deadly attacks on Pakistan’s security forces in recent months.
The ongoing conflict in Balochistan highlights the fragile security situation in the region, where separatist movements and militant groups continue to challenge Pakistan’s authority, contributing to instability along the borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
As tensions rise, the Pakistani government faces increasing pressure to stabilize Balochistan, not only to protect civilians but also to safeguard its strategic infrastructure projects, which insurgent groups have frequently targeted.
