Golden Globe predictions: Jessica Gunning (‘Baby Reindeer’) takes the early lead

0

Jessica Gunning just won the Emmy Award for her breakout role on Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer.” And now she’d better make some room on her awards mantel, because Gold Derby predicts she will prevail at the upcoming Golden Globes, too. (Maybe she will sing her speech this time?)

The English actress leads our 2025 Golden Globe predictions for Best TV Supporting Actress, a catch-all category that combines performances from dramas, comedies, limited series and made-for-television movies. Gunning inhabits the character of Martha Scott, a former lawyer who begins stalking comedian/bartender Donny Dunn (Richard Gadd). The plot of “Baby Reindeer” is adapted from Gadd’s own life, and he just won three Emmys for producing, writing and starring in the project.

At this early stage, Gunning’s closest competitors at the Golden Globes look to be Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”), Kali Reis (“True Detective: Night Country”), Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”), Liza Colon-Zayas (“The Bear”) and Carol Burnett (“Palm Royale”). All of these supporting ladies were recently nominated at the Emmy Awards, with Gunning winning in limited and Colon-Zayas prevailing in comedy.

Currently at Gold Derby, a leading nine out of our 11 Golden Globes Experts are predicting a victory for Gunning: Ben Travers (Indiewire), Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), Debra Birnbaum (Gold Derby), Jazz Tangcay (Variety), Keith Simanton (IMDb), Kristen Baldwin (Entertainment Weekly), Peter Travers (ABC), Ray Richmond (Gold Derby) and Susan King (Gold Derby).

As for the other two Experts, Joyce Eng (Gold Derby) picks Einbinder to win, while Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby) goes with Reis. Have you made YOUR Golden Globe predictions yet? It’s fun and easy — start right now!

During her Emmy acceptance speech (watch below), Gunning declared, “I honestly feel like I’m going to wake up any minute now and this whole thing had been a dream. I’m so incredibly proud to be a part of ‘Baby Reindeer.'”

She later added, “I’ve tried so many times to put into words what working on ‘Baby Reindeer’ meant to me, and I fail every time, so I’m gonna sing.” As the audience started laughing, she cheekily declared, “No, imagine!”
