OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An Oklahoma family is mourning the loss of a 12-year-old boy after he died in what's being described as a gun accident over the weekend.

A Millwood Middle school is now mourning the loss of one of their own, 12-year-old Tyler Taffe, who suddenly passed away last weekend.

"We're really not aware of all the things that happened, it was an accidental shooting," said Warren Pete, Principal of Millwood Middle School. "This is the first time at Millwood that a student didn't make it back to us over the weekend."

Taffe was a member of Millwood Middle School's football team.

Pete called him a hard worker with an infectious smile no matter the situation.

"Even when he was being disciplined on some things, he would just always smile and and they always say, 'I'll do better tomorrow. Mr. Pete,'" said Pete.

Taffe's loss is still being felt by his teachers and coaches, as well as his fellow students and teammates.

"Hearing he died just messed with me a little bit because, we used to play on the playground, we played on the football team," said Rodney Williams, a teammate.

"Hearing the news that he died, it just broke my heart," said William Grizzard, a teammate.

"All the good memories about him just make me want to cry, I'll for sure miss him and will never forget about him," said Ricardo Bowie, a teammate.

Taffe's unexpected death has been hard for all who knew him, but they promise to keep his memory alive.

"Sign one of my shirts number seven, because, that's what his number on the football team," said Tyse Stevenson, a close friend.

"He was always smiling. He was funny. He was a very, good, good person and a good friend to me," said Maxton Green, a close friend.

Millwood Public Schools is providing emotional support and counseling to any student or staff member who requests it.
