Gallent shrugs off quiet Miller outing in San Miguel’s tough EASL start

0

MANILA, Philippines – Quincy Miller turned in an underwhelming performance in his debut for San Miguel in the East Asia Super League.

The former NBA player finished with just 8 points on a dismal 2-of-12 shooting as the Beermen absorbed an 87-81 loss to Korean Basketball League club Suwon KT Sonicboom in their EASL opener on Wednesday, October 2.

But San Miguel head coach Jorge Gallent came to his defense, saying it was simply one of those off nights for Miller, who played three seasons in the NBA.

“Everybody has a bad game. Quincy was trying hard. Everybody has bad days,” Gallent said.

Although Miller made his presence felt in the other departments with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks, his offensive struggles proved crucial as San Miguel needed another scoring option.

Only import EJ Anosike and June Mar Fajardo breached double-figure scoring for the Beermen with 34 and 19 points, respectively.

Gallent, though, said Miller has been hard at work as San Miguel looks to become the first team from the Philippines to rule the EASL.

“He’s been practicing hard,” said Gallent. “He’s been shooting in practice, he’s been lifting weights. He practiced hard coming into this game.”

Miller is no stranger to EASL competition as he reinforced TNT last season, averaging 28.3 points and 9.5 rebounds before he got replaced by the Tropang Giga.

He also played as import for Converge in the PBA. – Rappler.com
