Ivan is a minimal floor lamp created by Copenhagen-based designer Jonas Trampedach as part of Værktoj 1. Værktoj 1 is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Frederik Gustav, Jonas Trampedach, Kasper Salto, and Michael Antrobus centers on the technique of metal bending, with all pieces crafted using the Gressel HB14, a manually operated bar bender commonly employed in industrial production. Despite their varied design philosophies, the exhibitors aim to present a unified collection that highlights how their creative processes are shaped by the tools they utilize. This approach underscores the significant role of equipment in the evolution of design ideas and the resulting artifacts.

Jonas Trampedach’s contribution, the Ivan floor lamp, exemplifies this concept. The design consists of two aluminum flat bars, each bent precisely at a 45-degree angle to frame the L-profile that supports the light source. Available in three versions, the lamp includes two options for focused illumination and a third that provides ambient light. This piece demonstrates the deliberate influence of the manual bending technique on both the form and function of the final product, reinforcing the exhibition’s exploration of the interplay between tools and design.
