She lost her job after talking with state auditors. She just won $8.7 million in whistleblower case

A federal court jury in California has awarded $8.7 million to a fired state worker who filed a whistleblower lawsuit. Tamara Evans worked for the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, which oversees credentialing for California law enforcement officers. Evans reported concerns in 2010 about an agency contract to auditors and says her bosses then started treating her poorly and she was fired in 2013. She sued, alleging she faced retaliation for sharing her concerns about the contract. A spokeswoman for the agency called Bohm’s allegations “baseless and without merit" and said the jury's verdict last week was disappointing. The spokeswoman said the agency is considering all appropriate post-trial options.
