North Carolina's MAGA candidate blew off voting for hurricane emergency declaration

MAGA North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson reportedly blew off an emergency declaration vote for his state as Hurricane Helene barreled toward the east coast.

Local news station WRAL reports that Robinson, who is currently North Carolina's lieutenant governor, was the lone Council of State member to not vote on North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper's request to declare a state of emergency last week.

As WRAL explains, an emergency declaration vote enables Cooper to "more easily mobilize rescue vehicles, order evacuations and begin other emergency actions by waiving some of the state’s transportation regulations for heavy vehicles."

The station also notes that Robinson, despite blowing off the emergency declaration vote, has been attacking Cooper on the campaign trail for not doing more to help residents in the state.

"On Sunday, he called on Cooper to send more resources and National Guard personnel to lead additional search-and-rescue teams," writes WRAL. "In a social media post on Tuesday, he added: 'North Carolina must follow the lead of successful governors like [Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis]. Cut the red tape. Stop waiting on federal resources and allow private industry in to assist with rescue and recovery efforts, and repair infrastructure immediately.'"

Former Republican North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory gave a scathing assessment of Robinson's lack of action in his official duties and said "it's inexcusable in a time of crisis."

Robinson's campaign has been rocked in recent weeks after a CNN report found that he made racist comments on a pornographic forum last decade and even went so far as to describe himself as a "Black NAZI."
