All high schools to get security guards
Security guards will be posted at all high schools for students aged 12-14 across Cyprus, after the plan worked well in lyceums and technical schools.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Education Minister Athena Michaelidou said security guards had already been posted at 38 lyceums and 11 technical schools for students aged 15-17 and six six-class high schools for students aged 12-17.
After the programme’s success, it will be extended to 62 high schools across Cyprus.
The programme will be implemented with security guards from private companies.
Michaelidou said the cabinet also approved targeted support for school infrastructure, by prioritising needs and utilising funds.
The support includes school building maintenance works, new activity halls and covered areas, as well as the construction of a new nursery and primary school in Ypsonas.
