People are just realising what the ‘no chicken’ symbol on washing labels actually means – and it makes a lot of sense
SOCIAL media users have been stunned by the meaning of a little-known symbol listed on a clothing label.
The unusual graphic appears to show a chicken crossed out alongside more recognizable symbols.
Facebook users were stumped by the meaning of a symbol on a label instructing how to care for a top made in Thailand (stock image)[/caption]A discussion about what the symbol could mean was sparked when a member of the Facebook group Mums Who Clean asked for advice.
She shared a photo of the label inside a top which was made in Thailand.
The instructions for washing, drying, and ironing seemed easy to follow but the “no chicken” symbol was baffling.
“Looking at moving out but mum hasn’t taught me what this means?” she wrote.
“It’s on an Astro Boy shirt and is open flame ok? Confused please advise.
“Got through to mum, she said f**cked if I know to go to mums who clean.”
The post went viral with hundreds of commenters making jokes about what the symbol could mean.
“If you iron it while wearing, you will end up like a roast chicken,” one person said.
“Don’t roast in the oven with your chicken,” another commented.
“Not suitable for the rotisserie, of course,” a third chimed in.
“Don’t mess with chickens, never be a triangle, circle of good friends only, just get ur circle to be kinda square at times, never iron, don’t light fires and shower 30degree water so u are out in four minutes to be warned so stay at home !!!” a fourth joked.
“Don’t be a chicken, wash it in 30 degrees water or set fire to it. Your choice,” another quipped.
Other responses to the post advised the woman to ignore the symbol while caring for the top by washing on cold and avoiding ironing.
Amid the flood of amusing comments was one person who recognized the mysterious symbol.
