Xbox Live servers down as thousands impacted by log in issues and online multiplayer crashes in ‘major outage’

WHAT appeared to be scheduled maintenance has quickly turned into a widespread Xbox outage, with thousands blocked from gaming.

More than 8,800 Xbox players have reported issues with the network on DownDetector since 12pm BST in the UK and US alone.

Xbox was supposed to be undergoing planned maintenance on The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited on 2 October, according to its server status site.

The maintenance, which applies to Xbox Series XS, Xbox One and cloud gaming, was expected to cause problems launching games until 5pm BST.

However, many people on social media said the gaming network was having more widespread issues, as gamers struggled to log in and access the Xbox store.

“Think ya’ll need to look into Xbox servers being down,” one X user wrote.

“I don’t know about anyone else but the store ain’t loading.”

Another said: “Looks like Xbox took down all their own servers to update this.”

While a third added: “I can’t sign in at all, I think your servers are down.”

‘Major outage’

Xbox has since updated its server status to reflect a “major outage” affecting accounts, online gaming and multiplayer matches.

The outage has stopped gamers from being able to sign-in to their Xbox accounts on their console, the Xbox website, Windows PCs, and even on Android and iOS devices.

Gamers have also been blocked from joining parties, receiving party invites, and are being booted from groups after joining on all devices.

Cloud-based matches may also crash without warning after a game begins.

Xbox is currently investigating the outage.

In a statement on X, Xbox Support wrote: “We are aware users are experiencing issues with sign-in, launching games, and joining parties.

“Support teams currently are looking into this, and we will provide an update here and on our status page.”

This is a breaking news story.
