Jasprit Bumrah overtakes fellow India teammate to regain No.1 position in ICC Test Rankings
New Delhi: India pacer Jasprit Bumrah regained the top position at the ICC Test Player Rankings for bowlers after his six wickets in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur that ended on Tuesday. Thus he overtook fellow teammate Ravichandran Ashwin who is currently placed second. The off-spinner, who claimed five wickets for himself, is just one point behind Bunrah’s 870. Ravindra Jadeja is the only other Indian bowler in top 10 with at sixth.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya rose to a career-high of seventh position – on equal with Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. Among the Bangladesh bowlers, Mehidy Hasan (up four spots to 18th) and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan (up five places to 28th) rose up.
Among other Indians, who gained spots are Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli. Jaiswal, who got the Player of the Match award for his two fifties in the Kanpur Test, reached a new career-high rating by jumping two places to third on the updated Test batter rankings. Only England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson are ahead pf Jaiswal.
On the other hand, Kohli too returned back inside the top 10 as he gained six places to move to sixth overall following scores of 47 and 29 not out against Bangladesh in the second Test.
