Bee Cave Middle School student arrested after school shooting threat
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A student at Bee Cave Middle School has been arrested after posting a school threat to social media Friday.
According to a Lake Travis Independent School District letter sent to parents, the student posted the threat to Snapchat, saying, "The pep rally? The perfect time to shoot up the school, but NO they got my a** locked up in heyer."
The student was identified and removed from campus, and the Lake Travis ISD Police Department immediately conducted a threat assessment with the school's administrative team, according to the letter sent by LTISD Supt. Paul Norton.
The district said it was quickly determined that the student did not pose an immediate credible threat, but they were arrested at home Monday on a charge of Terroristic Threat.
"It brings us no joy to have a student charged with a criminal offense. However, school threats carry very real consequences," Norton said. "These actions generate an atmosphere of fear and anxiety, placing a substantial burden on district resources. Consequently, our focus is diverted from the educational process. We urge all parents to continue talking with their children about the seriousness of making school threats."
Similar threats at other campuses in the district in recent weeks remain under investigation, and Norton said school leaders and law enforcement "continue to be relentless in their duties."
The district has an anonymous tip form, Cavs Who Care, where people can submit any information about threats or other concerns.
