Showing at WatchTime New York 2024: Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition

0

WatchTime New York 2024 is now only three weeks away, taking place at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall from October 18th to 20nd, with the excitement building more and more each day. Armin Strom will be returning to the show this year, poised to showcase one of its most impressive watches to date with the new Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition.

Launched to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its first fully integrated manufacture movement, the new watch centers on reimagining the watchmaker’s most historically significant innovation in its resonance complication. This complication type signifies that a watch houses two distinct movements within a single case, each of their twin balance wheels working together to naturally influence and regulate one another in a state of “resonance.” In this new Dual Time, these two movements work together to display two visually independent but mechanically integrated time zones.

Presented in an appealing 39mm diameter in 18k white gold, the case is familiar Armin Strom, featuring the refinement in faceting and finishing which has in part helped distinguish the haute horlogerie maker from many others. Though distinct for the case its use of two independent crowns, each slightly off-center on either of its sides. These two crowns set each of their corresponding side’s dials, allowing the user to carry two fully visible time displays at once on the wrist.

The dial is where some of the most fascinating aspects of the wristwatch are at play, with the three-dimensional, partly open-work aesthetic hosting the aforementioned double time displays, alongside giving viewers an insight into the mechanical mastery at work. Dubbed a “kinetic spectacle of Resonance” by the brand, the two visible balance wheels towards the top of the display operate in a state of resonance, being synchronized with one another and showcasing the beating heart and breath of the timepiece. Towards the bottom of the dial, two matching barrels and their own fine finishing hold the watch’s power stores of 42 hours.

On the two independent time displays, the sub-dials use sky-blue grenage with black azurage chapter rings. Polished and applied baton indices then serve as the hour markers, with matching hour and minute hands. Subtle but notable are the day/night discs also on each of the displays, with each rhodium-plated for a contrasting, elevated touch.

The fascinating movement making this resonance possible is new Armin Strom manufacture caliber ARF22, a manually-wound Resonance movement and the 18th caliber designed and produced in-house under the direction of Claude Greisler, Armin Strom’s co-founder and master watchmaker. While much of the active visual intrigue of the caliber is on its dial side, via a sapphire exhibition caseback you can see even more of the brand’s incredible finishing ability, alongside even more impressive symmetrical design work.

Limited to 25 total editions with each coming with a ten-year warranty, the Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition has its pricing marked at 115,000 CHF, or about $135,000 USD.
