Paris Jackson Revealed the Reason Dad Michael Picked Elizabeth Taylor to Be Her Godmother

Y’know how everyone in Hollywood seems to know one another? Well, not only do they all know each other, but it seems like so many celebs are godparents to other celebs. It’s actually kinda cosmic when you realize this cool connection. And while fans of Paris Jackson may know everything about her, there’s one thing they may not have known: Elizabeth Taylor was her godmother.

That’s right, Taylor was Paris’ godmother. Paris’ dad, Michael Jackson, gave Taylor the honor for a very sweet reason.

Paris said on the new BBC docuseries Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar that Michael chose Taylor so Paris could have an older woman who knew what it was like “growing up in the spotlight.”

“There’s definitely a part of him that knew that we would have a very similar experience,” she said. “I was homeschooled and because of that, I don’t know what it was like to be around other kids my age.”

She added, “And I think it was just the same for her.”

While we don’t know more details about their bond, it was clear there was a lot of love there. Along with that, Paris goes to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation every year.

Now, you may be like: “Since when were Michael and Taylor pals?” Well, it all started in 1984, after her divorce from Richard Burton. He befriended her and tried to cheer her up. Per Elizabeth and Michael: The Queen of Hollywood and the King of Pop — A Love Story, the pair became fast friends, and were close until Michael’s death in 2009. In fact, Taylor even requested to be buried next to Michael in the Great Mausoleum in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
