Champion meets champion: NU formalizes Sherwin Meneses signing as Lady Bulldogs coach
MANILA, Philippines – After weeks of reports and a few games into the Asian Volleyball Confederation Club Championship, National University finally announced the signing of multi-time champion coach Sherwin Meneses as the new leader of the mighty Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, October 1.
“Leading the Creamline Cool Smashers to multiple championships, including the 2024 PVL Invitational, Reinforced, and All-Filipino Conferences, [Meneses] solidifies his status as one of the Philippines’ top volleyball coaches,” the school wrote in its official release.
“His ability to develop winning teams continues to shine as he takes on new challenges in the collegiate scene.”
Currently also the head coach of the Arellano Chiefs men’s volleyball team in the NCAA, Meneses is returning to the UAAP for the first time since leaving the Adamson Lady Falcons in Season 78 back in 2016.
The seasoned mentor carries with him a wealth of experience from multiple leagues, most notably the Premier Volleyball League, where he recently became the first-ever coach to win the coveted Grand Slam after Creamline’s 2024 Invitational Conference conquest of Cignal in September.
Meneses takes over defending champion Norman Miguel, who recently led the Lady Bulldogs to a Season 86 title conquest of the vaunted La Salle Lady Spikers in what turned out to be a one-and-done coaching return year.
Meneses now inherits one of the most loaded teams in modern UAAP history, with multiple national team prospects leading the way like two-time MVP Bella Belen, reigning Finals MVP Alyssa Solomon, former Best Setter Lams Lamina, and rising stars Arah Panique and Vange Alinsug. – Rappler.com
