How Spurs trio Jamie Donley, Dane Scarlett, and Ashley Phillips did on loan this week

It has been a great week for players at Tottenham Hotspur, but what about those younger players currently out on loan? Here’s the latest update on Jamie Donley, Dane Scarlett, and Ashley Phillips.

Jamie Donley back in the starting lineup for Leyton Orient

By far the most positive story of the week among these three starlets is Jamie Donley, who got substantial minutes under his belt and started a game for the first time in a month.

He played 70 minutes for the League One side as they drew 0-0 with high-flying Wrexham at home. Donley played on the right-hand side of a front three for Orient.

Donley racked up 44 touches of the ball, and made one key pass during his time on the pitch. He was even involved in a corner which could and really should have led to a goal for his team, but they couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.

The 19-year-old was an unused substitute last week in the midweek game against Peterborough but will be hoping he can retain his place in the starting lineup now.

Dane Scarlett makes a brief appearance

A seven-minute cameo may sound like a disappointing day out for Dane Scarlett, but it’s actually better than he has been getting of late with Oxford United.

The young striker entered the field late on against Burnley at the weekend, as Oxford ground out a 0-0 draw with the Clarets. He touched the ball four times and made two passes in his brief appearance.

Scarlett has largely been confined to the bench as an unused substitute for Oxford so far this season, and really needs to get more game time or he faces another frustrating loan spell like last year at Ipswich.

Concussion protocol spoils Ashley Phillips’ progress

Ashley Phillips had been progressing nicely at Stoke City in his early days at the Championship club, particularly in two Carabao Cup performances, but his latest game in that competition has had a negative impact on his time on the field since.

After taking a ball to the face in the win over Fleetwood Town a couple of weeks ago, Phillips was withdrawn as a concussion substitute. As a result, he has had to sit out for two weeks and has missed the last two matches.

He could be available in midweek for the game against Portsmouth, where he would get his first minutes under new manager Narcis Pelach.
